Founded in 1890, Bury Golf Club was designed by the great Dr Alister Mackenzie of Augusta National fame. Mackenzie, a resident of Leeds,
designed a number of top-class courses outside the United Kingdom, but he also laid down some treasures in his native North of England
and Bury is certainly one of them.
The internationally famous Harry Vardon held the position of Club Professional from 1891 to 1896 before winning the British Open a record
6 times followed by a successful career in the USA. Whilst steeped in history, this moorland course has been extensively improved and
extended over the past years. The club members are justifiably proud of their club and its excellent course and the challenge it offers to
players of all standards and capabilities.
