Westmoor Veterinary Hospital

Westmoor Veterinary Hospital

is a small animal practice providing

an excellent and professional standard of care to their patients and

their owners in a friendly and welcoming manner. The practice

has been serving the Tavistock area for over 100 years and their

dedicated vets and nurses provide a very experienced pet care

team. Their aim is to treat every pet as if they were their own.

As a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) certified

Veterinary Hospital their outstanding facilities include digital X-ray

and ultrasonography, a fully equipped laboratory, air conditioned

kennels and operating theatres, along with 24 hour on site care. The

practice is probably one of the best equipped and modern practices

in the area. All of this ensures your pet will receive first class modern

treatment and the highest quality of care available.

The veterinary and nursing team are supported by fully trained

receptionists. The team is led by the Practice Manager and Clinical

Director who are always available to answer any queries you may

have. All staff regularly attend training courses to ensure the practice

remains at the forefront of treatment and care of their patients. Their

veterinary surgeons are experienced in all fields but also have areas

of specialist interest, including ophthalmology and internal medicine.

The practice is open from 8.00am to 7.30pm weekdays offering

appointments from 9.00am to 7.00pm and Saturday 8.00am to

1.30pm offering appointments from 9.00am to 1.00pm.

The practice also care about what happens to your patients after

normal working hours and as such provide their own 24 hour on-site

emergency care service. The team of qualified nurses provide on-site

24 hour care for in-patients. Therefore you can be rest assured that

your pets are receiving the best care possible should they have to be

hospitalised at the practice.

The practice prefer to examine your pet at the surgery, where they

have the facilities, equipment and trained staff to be able to give

your pet the best treatment available, however, home visits can be

arranged by contacting the practice.

A wide range of investigations can be performed on-site allowing the

staff to evaluate your pets’ health promptly. The practice is equipped

with the latest digital x-ray equipment/software, 2 ultrasonography

machines for general use and heart evaluations, modern dental

facilities including xrays, endoscopy, in-house laboratory and access

to external laboratory for more complicated tests (normally 24hr

turn around time), ECG and the most up-to-date theatre equipment

including the latest anaesthesia monitors (pulse oximetry, blood

pressure monitoring, capnography) and most importantly Bair

Huggers which provides clinical warmth to the animal before, during

and after surgery. You can be sure that your pet receives the best

that modern veterinary medicine can provide.

The practice specialises in the treatment of Veterinary Ophthalmic

conditions and provides the highest level of care and treatment

for a wide variety of eye conditions in domestic animals, including

cataracts using phacoemulsification. The practice provides a

dedicated second opinion service, therefore the practice sees

patients referred by their first opinion vet.

The practice is also able to provide Eye scheme testing. The scheme

exists to enable pedigree dogs to have their eyes examined for

the possible presence of hereditary eye disease prior to breeding.

Numerous hereditary eye diseases are recognised in a wide range

of breeds. Prevention is obviously better than cure and it makes

very good sense to screen dogs for such diseases prior to breeding.

Many of the diseases are serious and many are indeed not curable

at all. There is a small panel of specialist veterinary ophthalmologists

authorised to carry out tests under the scheme and Chris Warren is a

member of the panel.

The veterinary nurses run free nursing clinics daily and are always

available to give advice on all aspects of pet care such as weight

control, worming, dental and flea treatment. They also provide more

specialist clinics including diabetes, renal, senior health and nutrition.

Puppy parties are run at the practice to encourage your puppy to

become a happy well socialised pet and to offer advice during those

first 6 months.

For clients that are new to the area, the Westmoor team would like to

invite you and your pet to come and meet the team and have a look

around the facilities.

Remember, friendly and knowledgeable staff are always available

for help and advice.
